Community Pharmacy in Alabama is at a serious crossroads and the Legislature has a real chance to do something positive for healthcare in the state. Currently there are 10 counties in Alabama served by a single locally-owned pharmacy, without this FAIR Meds Act passing, it could get worse. Your help is vital! Contact your legislator and urge them to support the FAIR Meds Act!
The FAIR Meds Act opens communication between a patient and pharmacist without restriction, allows pharmacy access for patients without the pharmacy paying fees for participation or transmittal of Prescription claims, empowers the Department of Insurance to better enforce the Pharmacy Audit Integrity Act and allows employers the full benefits of any rebates generated by their employees’ drug claims and retains the ownership of drug data files.
Bottom line: it protects patients, provides more information and benefits to employer paid health plans, and allows your pharmacy to answer your questions about drugs and work better with you.
Patients and employers deserve the ability to have truth and transparency in prescription drug pricing.
Billionaire Mark Cuban of "Shark Tank" and Cost Plus Drugs fame testified at a White House roundtable on prescription drug costs that the practices of the largest pharmacy benefit managers are "everything that's wrong" with the prescription drug system in the United States. Watch his comments below:
